This election’s results were a big win for partisan politics. When both Republicans and Democrats work together to accomplish things, it is more favorable for the American people. It really seems like it has been quite a long time that the Obama administration has been in power without any substantial results. Sure, people could attribute the economy’s recovery to his policies, but I don’t think anyone can claim he was the primary factor behind it. In my opinion he did really poorly in making sure the oil spill was capped in a timely manner this summer. I think Americans in general are torn on the issue of healthcare, because people are tired of the endless checkbook Democrats think our country has; our next generation will be the ones paying for it. Fortunately the outcome of the recent election will change the game plan for Obama. I look forward to seeing what candidates run for 2012 as I believe this will be a historical election.
One thing that bothered me this election was the voter turnout. People that don’t vote do a disservice to our political system because government is about representing the people at the most basic level. Fundamentally, it would be great if everyone voted but that is obviously not a reality in a democracy. Here’s to the future of our economy, cutting back on government spending, and reaching across the aisle to get things done for the people.
It was an amazing experience to be able to witness history in Madrid, Spain during the World Cup this year. While soccer is not a sport I particularly follow, it was exciting to follow the games that led up to Spain versus Holland. I had originally thought Germany would make it but I was proven wrong.
BP’s oil spill is no small problem that the US faces. In my opinion it is a criminal offense that this company has engaged in because of carelessness. BP is probably as much to blame as the US government for not regulating these profit-massing oil companies. Could they not allocate just 3% of their profit to ensuring the safety of the environment and ensuring their equipment is fully functional? Companies this big always need a plan B should disaster arise in such a risky and important part of the economy.
Why is BP still in charge a month after the spill and nothing has succeeded to stop the oil from spewing out of the well?

So the iPad is coming to people’s hands on April 3rd. It’s got some pretty nifty features with the touch capabilities that Apple spent a lot of time on. It’s not quite what I would say “Revolutionary”. Yes it’s first to market, but the features really don’t “wow” me enough to go and purchase one. I think many people are waiting for version 2 as well because of the lack of features it could have had. Steve Jobs has been known to introduce features over a period of time to generate more sales as we see with the iPhone, which has a new version yearly. It’s kind of ridiculous to keep refreshing technology when it can just be implemented on day 1. For example, there should be a front-facing camera for video conferencing, a camera, and more memory. We’ll see how well Apple can hold on to the milk and refresh strategy. It has already been known that a new iPhone is due this summer. But Steve, where the hell are the new Macs?
On Monday I traded my first stock and made a decent sum of money. I invested in Intel Corporation as soon as I heard the news of the announcement of their new hex core processor. It went up about .50 where I sold my stock to get out when the going was good.
I have not had much experience other than using StockTrak in my finance class where we trade in a simulation program. I feel my choice was good because the stock has not had much of a climb after I traded and as of this writing closed at about .70 since I bought it. Better safe than sorry as they say.
I have done some deep research into some online brokerage firms. After looking at prices and features, I originally went with OptionsHouse. I was disappointed with the length of time it took to set up and transfer money so I moved to Banc of America, where I get 30 free trades a month. The tools are not as great as ETrade, however I feel better off paying $7 if I ever go over the 30 trades than paying $10 per trade. Additionally, it only takes 1 day to move money back and forth between your bank accounts, so I find it very convenient.
I have also considered Just2Trade, however I’m unsure of their service and reliability as a company. Thanks for reading.
Oh slot machines, why do people even bother trying at them? These days it is so difficult to trust that Casinos are doing the right thing and making sure there is a fair winning possibility on their slot machines. This Thanksgiving I went down to the Atlantis resort in the Bahamas. It’s a fantastic place to relax and enjoy the great weather, but there has to be a reason why their slot machines don’t like to spit out significant winnings. I’ve never been inside the casino and witnessed a jackpot with my own eyes. I’ve heard of them happening before, but never above $20,000. Many machines advertise a $100,000 jackpot and they’ll occasionally spit out a few hundred dollars to make gamblers hopeful.
I think the problem has to do with the consumer allowing the machines to becoming digitalized. So much customization has gone into these machines that it is a big mystery as to how much the machines really are tweaked. Only god knows the probability of winning the jackpot on a machine. I bet in excess of a $1000 over the course of the trip and it is pretty easy to spend it within hours. I went to $1 machines and tried the $5 machines. The casino likes to trick you into spending the “max bet” by making you really spend triple of what you thought you were going to put into the machine. That is the only way to reach the advertised jackpot.
It is really too difficult to win on slot machines. I don’t call myself a gambler but it was definitely an eye opening experience I’d thought to share.
AT&T Side by Side
You know, it’s just hilarious how firms like Apple and AT&T think alike. Verizon was just beating on AT&T with their map commercial with the message to consumers that Verizon has more coverage across the United States which is true. Luke Wilson is featured in the commercial and pretty much destroys Verizon in all aspects such as AT&T being the fastest 3G network, allowing you to surf and talk at the same time, and offering over 100,000 apps.
Verizon, you made a really bad choice not going with the iPhone because you were greedy. The iPhone continues to be the most profitable and user friendly smartphone in the world and is still gaining market share. Everyone I know almost has an iPhone, I even just bought my girlfriend one. The things you can do with it are amazing… Anyhow, back to what I was saying about the comparison: In my opinion AT&T needs to beef up their network. I constantly experience dropped calls and bad reception in NorthEast parts of the country. Down south in Florida the quality of service is quite good and coverage is great. I just can’t wait for 4G to roll out.
